5 MYTHS about lash extensions!

Once you start having your lashes done, it is incredibly hard to be without them. However, we do know that there are some assumptions out there about lash extensions which I would like to clarify for you.

Whether you already get your lashes done, aren’t sure about lash extensions, or are thinking of adding this treatment to your self-care routine, this info will help you in your lash journey!

  1. LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR LASHES

Soooo not true! Lash extensions can damage your natural lashes when applied in an unsafe way. If heavy, thick extensions are used which weigh your lashes down and eventually pull them out as they grow this will cause traction alopecia (tension hair loss) to your lashes. Another way damage can be caused is if two natural lashes are glued together by an extension being applied. Every single natural lash needs to be individually separated to apply an extension. Ao if natural lashes are glued together, as one grows it will pull out the one next to it before it’s ready to shed! Lash extensions can also cause damage if not cared for properly, which brings me to point 2…

  1. YOU CAN’T GET LASH EXTENSIONS WET

Lash extensions need to be cleaned in order to make sure your eye area is free from bacteria. This is the most important reason for keeping your lashes clean, blepharitis and other eye infections can occur if your lashes are not kept bacteria-free. Makeup, oil and dirt will loosen the adhesive used by your lash tech, so regular cleaning will absolutely help your extensions last longer. If you pay for your lashes, you want them to last and we recommend a foam lash cleanser for an easy lash cleaning routine. Head over to our IGTV on instagram @beautyhousebristol for lash care tips!

  1. AFTER LASH EXTENSIONS, YOUR NATURAL LASHES WILL BE SHORTER/THINNER

As long as lashes are removed gently and correctly by a lash tech using the appropriate remover, your lashes will be exactly how they were before you ever had lash extensions. You may feel as if you have sparse lashes, but this is normally because you are so used to having longer, fuller extensions that it is easy to forget what your natural lashes were like! If you want to remove lash extensions, go back to your lash salon as they will be able to remove them without causing any damage to your lashes. Whatever you do, don’t try to pick or pull them as this will pull your natural lashes out.

  1. YOU MUST HAVE REGULAR BREAKS FROM LASH EXTENSIONS

I have clients who have been having non-stop lash infills for 5 years+. As long as your lashes are isolated and separated out properly when being applied, they will just grow and shed naturally as part of their natural lash cycle. At an infill, we remove extensions which have outgrown and add fresh lashes, as well as applying lashes to new lash growth (you’ll be surprised at how much your lashes do grow!). You can keep having lashes applied for as long as you like, as long as you are scheduling regular infills and keeping up with the right aftercare.

  1. I WILL BE LED DOWN FOR HOURS TO HAVE LASH EXTENSIONS APPLIED

I have been doing lashes for over 7 years and do them pretty much every day, and as a result I am a fast lasher! Some experienced lash techs still choose to keep clients for 2-3 hours to apply lashes, however this doesn’t mean they are any more or less skilled. We book out 45-90 minutes for infills, and the longest we book for a super full volume set is 1 hour and 45 minutes. We appreciate time is of the essence for busy women and so we want to make life as easy as possible! A lot of clients also say they get uncomfortable being led down for such a long time, so the Lash Bar area of our salon has super-comfy recliner seating and blankets to add to the comfort levels!
